Not everything that can happen will happen.
In fact, most of what can happen won't.
Furthermore, if there is a multiverse, practically everything won't happen (with the exception of one reality).

With this in mind, I posit that renewable energy will not happen; as long as there are cheaper alternatives. There are.
Nor is the "Renewables suck now, but give them a decade" argument ever gonna work. If we allow it, we might as well rememeber that alternatives to these alternatives, namely nuclear variants, already exist and keep getting better at a faster rate than renewables do or can hope to improve.
